About Dr. Melissa Walsh

Dr. Melissa Walsh is a board-certified OB/GYN physician executive with over 15 years of experience delivering and redesigning healthcare across public, nonprofit, academic, and tech-enabled settings. She is the Founder and Principal Consultant of Equitable Health Innovation Group, LLC (EHIG), where she advises mission-driven healthcare and digital health organizations on building equitable, clinically grounded, and responsibly AI-enabled strategies.

Education & Early Career

Dr. Walsh is a graduate of The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education (now the CUNY School of Medicine), a 7-year accelerated B.S./M.D. program with a unique focus on community health and social medicine. This foundation shaped her lifelong commitment to viewing medicine as service to both the individual patient and the broader community.

After earning her M.D. at New York Medical College, she completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Centers and NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. She has been fully board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 2016.

Dr. Walsh served at the frontlines of public health at Montefiore Medical Center and NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue & Gouverneur Health, where she also trained and taught residents and medical students as a clinical assistant professor with the OB/GYN departments at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and NYU School of Medicine. In 2018, she became one of the first OB/GYN physicians to be awarded Doctor of the Year honors for her work at NYC Health + Hospitals/Gouverneur. She later continued her frontline service in South Florida, serving as a clinical assistant professor with Florida International University in the OB/GYN department of Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, where she taught and trained residents and medical students.

Leadership in Women’s Health & Digital Innovation

As the first OB/GYN physician and National Medical Director for a first-of-its-kind virtual maternal-newborn healthcare startup, Dr. Walsh helped scale the maternal health team by more than 10x and co-developed a wraparound care model that leveraged AI-enabled technology to serve thousands of Medicaid patients nationwide. The program demonstrated measurable improvements in outcomes, including reductions in ER visits, NICU admissions, and pregnancy/postpartum complications, while centering the lived experiences of each patient.

Her expertise spans clinical care delivery, Medicaid innovation, health equity, AI-powered operations, and care navigation, and her work has consistently focused on improving outcomes for historically underserved populations.

Innovation Lens: Blockchain & Emerging Technologies

Since 2021, Dr. Walsh has also engaged in the Web3, blockchain, and Decentralized Science (DeSci) community, earning the community nickname “Spottie WiFey” while supporting her husband, Spottie WiFi, a pioneering Web3 musician. She has spoken internationally on exploring the role of blockchain and immersive technologies in rebuilding trust in medicine and equitable pathways for research and care delivery. She has contributed to AthenaDAO, a women’s health DeSci collective, and was an early member of HPEC (now evercred), a blockchain-based physician credentialing network. She is a founding member of the American Medical Extended Reality Association (AMXRA) and a member of both HIMSS and the Florida Perinatal Quality Collaborative.

Ongoing Commitment

Whether leading teams, advising healthcare organizations, or speaking on national and global stages, Dr. Walsh is guided by a simple conviction: women’s health is foundational to community health. Her work bridges clinical expertise, public health strategy, and technology innovation to create systems that are data-driven, equity-centered, and human-focused.

✦ Founder’s Message

The pandemic reminded us that our health is both precious and irreplaceable—a truth that underpins why modern healthcare exists: to keep us as healthy as possible. Of course, it’s never that simple. We face ongoing challenges, but our purpose remains clear: optimizing health is essential not only for individuals, but for the strength and sustainability of our communities and economy. Healthier communities consistently build stronger economies, which in turn support better health for all.

Today, we live in a data-rich, evidence-based healthcare ecosystem that holds enormous, and still untapped, potential. When applied responsibly, emerging technologies, especially AI, blockchain, and Web3-enabled tools, offer us new ways to strengthen trust, safeguard data ownership, and create more transparent, collaborative systems of care. Used wisely, these technologies can reduce costs, increase value, and most importantly, ensure that care remains human-centered, equitable, and accessible.

At EHIG, our mission is to bridge the best of clinical practice with innovation, ensuring that every advancement, whether in AI, digital health, or beyond, serves the people and communities at the heart of healthcare.
