• Squats – Stand with your feet hip-width apart, bend your knees and lower yourself into a squat with your toes farther forward than your knees, your backside stuck out behind you, and your upper body straight and firm. Now just press into your heels to bring yourself into a standing position and do two to three sets of eight to 16 reps.

• Lunges – Stand with your feet about three feet apart, right foot forward, left foot back, and bend both knees so that your body is lowered toward the floor, keeping your upper body straight and your tummy muscles tucked in. Keep the movement fluid and don’t lock your knees when you reach your lowest point; then push through the front heel to return to your starting position. Start with one set of eight reps, increasing to three sets of 16 as your fitness level improves, and don’t forget to alternate legs to work both sides equally.
